Kitchen Sketch

Here is an updated kitchen sketch. These aren't the finishes that have been chosen, but the layout will be the same. Some highlights include 4 big drawers for pot/pans/mixing bowls, double trash pull out, small appliance storage in the island and a hood. I'm so excited for a hood. No more waking up the next morning and smelling last nights dinner. Gross!

The island will seat four people and the stools will probably be a similar style to what's included in the sketch. I hope they're comfortable because it could be a couple years until we can get a dining room table.

I did lose the battle on the color of the kitchen cabinets. They will be cherry wood with a dark stain. Counters will be soapstone and carrara marble on the island, white subway tile for the backsplash and a herringbone pattern behind the cooktop .

I've noticed that in my extreme dislike for ornate details that I'm choosing modern finishes. I never thought my style was modern but I like clean, simple lines.

The kitchen faucet and dining chandelier are good examples.

Master Bath Heaven

I cannot wait to wake up in the morning and step into this awesome walk-in shower. I took inspiration from a friend's bathroom remodel for the actually shower design. The finishes in this image are just placeholders - I'm not doing the same tile through out the bathroom.
I love this bathroom and plan to try and create a similar look using subway tiles, basket weave floor tiles and maybe carrara marble for the vanity top. I'm using carrara for the kitchen island so if the price to fabricate from the same slab isn't too bad, I may go for it.

As Built Plans

Here are the as built plans. Notice all the doors particularly near the bathroom. The squared off space at the rear is all asphalt that will be removed when the foundation in poured.
This is the basement. The right side is finished.

Next Steps

We present our plan to the zoning board of appeals later this week. Assuming we get the nod that all is well, we being hashing out the contract with our builder and will make a massive deposit.

Right now, we have a start date of April 15 in mind. It's a few months away but it's going to fly.

These are the most recent exterior rendering and interior layout. The outside is still a little rough but the landscaping offers a better idea of what the house will look like when it's done. If you haven't been to our house, there really is a huge tree in the front yard.
There are just a few tweaks I want to make to the interior, otherwise, it's finalized.

Lighting Dilemma

I've been spending way too much time browsing lighting websites. I had no trouble choosing bathroom fixtures etc but lighting has been overwhelming. I'm specifically looking for two pendants over the island, an entry way light (small space w/vaulted ceiling) and a dining room light. The dining room and kitchen are open so I think the lighting fixtures need to complement each other.

I was thinking this one would look good over the island. It comes with a frosted glass too, but I couldn't find a photo with the antique bronze finish.

I really like this one for the dining room. The space is small and this light is 10.5 inches in dimeter.
I can't tell if this one would be good for the entry way. It doesn't really look like an entry way light but it could work. It could even go over the island.
I also like this one for the entry. It's technically a schoolhouse style light but it doesn't scream schoolhouse.

First of Many Milestones

Looks like we're moving forward. We went ahead and submitted our application to be put on the agenda for the Feb meeting to receive a variance from the town. The next big hurdle is financing. Assuming all goes well, construction will begin the first of May and the project should be completed by mid-Sept. That's much better than the one year time frame I was expecting.

Poll: Kitchen Faucet

I need help. I can't decide between these two kitchen faucets. The kitchen is going to have cherry cabinets, soapstone perimeter, and a carrara marble island top (these photos are just examples). Here is the sink too.

Both faucets come with a soap dispenser, have a stainless steal finish and the price is similar. Which looks better?
